Balloon Release Idea Alternatives
Balloon release idea alternatives are expected to be a hot topic. The Queensland Government has tabled legislation to ban the release of lighter-than-air balloons with other states expected to follow.
Balloon Release Idea Alternatives
Reports state that the ban is expected to come into effect in September 2023, right in time for peak celebration season across the country. We see a lot of balloon releases in the industry and they’re certainly both beautiful and meaningful. Balloon releases have been used across the country (and around the world) for decades to symbolise a special date or memory.
Unfortunately the government has had to take the impact of balloon releases into consideration. They have serious environmental implications on wildlife. Balloons of course have to come down at some point which in effect then leaves literally thousands of pieces of runner strewn across the landscape. Animals can easily ingest these and cause illness or death.
Then of course there’s the litter aspect. Even those balloons not found by an animal will not break down. Balloon releases are already considered littering. Most people planning for a balloon release tend to ignore these regulations. On a positive note, there are plenty of environmentally friendly, and just as beautiful, options available as balloon release idea alternatives.
Bubbles
Bubbles are cheap and oh so pretty! There’s a good reason why the bubbles are bought out at so many kids parties. They’ll keep everyone entertained for hours trying to blow the biggest bubble! Bubbles are also perfect for more formal occasions such as weddings. Did you know most churches won’t allow confetti to be thrown for similar reasons? Confetti makes a huge mess for your ceremony location to clean. Bubbles offer aesthetic beauty without the clean-up.
Pinwheels
Everyone loves a pinwheel! Unlike most celebrations where you wish the wind away, a windy day is perfect for pinwheels. They are inexpensive or can be a fun DIY project before your celebration. Pinwheels make for gorgeous photos too with everyone holding up their brightly coloured creations.
Candles
And one for the not so windy days! Candles hold plenty of meaning and can be purchased cheaply for a large crowd. The lighting of the candle can signify the meaning behind your gathering. If your event is outdoors and you’re concerned about wind, place them in a glass votive. In addition, candles can double as a take home gift for your guests for a lasting memory.
Ribbons
Did you ever have a ribbon on a stick? Parents of gymnasts or ballerinas will probably know what we’re talking about! A long ribbon on the end of a long stick can be twirled for dramatic effect. Ribbons come in every colour of the rainbow too.
Flower float instead of a balloon release
Instead of the air, take to the sea. Give each guest a flower and have them place it in the ocean. This is a incredibly meaningful biodegradable option that won’t hurt any animals. Guests can be encouraged to choose and bring along their own flower.
Butterfly release
We understand if your heart is set on a release into the sky. A butterfly release is the perfect alternative to balloons. You’re sure to find a professional service in your area.
Photo booth hire
Did you know we have also attended life celebrations and funerals with our booths? Our customers tell us that although these are sad occasions, it’s often the only time the entire family is together. We have taken many calls over the years from customers looking for a particular photo taken in our booths to use for a funeral or celebration of life. We consider this a deep honour. In addition, balloons can be used in our booths and then disposed of responsibly. All guests can take home their printed photos and there is no waste as our photo booth strips simply don’t get thrown out. Photographic memories are without a doubt the most precious.
